What We Do

Brimbank Youth Services (BYS) works with young people aged between 12 – 25 years who live, work, study or recreate in Brimbank. We aim to support young people to participate in education, health & wellbeing, recreation and employment activities, contributing to a strong sense of belonging and pride in their community.

Our Vision
“A community that encourages and provides opportunities for young people to feel valued, respected and included”

Background
Prior to 2011, Brimbank Youth Services was tendered to the YMCA, who delivered successful outcomes related to the tender arrangement with Council. Through consultation with young people, the broader youth sector and internal stakeholders as related to the development of the Brimbank Youth Policy and Action Plan 2010-2014, a decision was made by Council to return youth services in-house as this was considered the best means to deliver outcomes as related to the newly-developed youth policy and action plan.

5 key strategic directions have been focussed on during the delivery of services within the current Youth Policy and Action Plan. These being:

  • Sector planning and coordination
  • Working in partnership
  • Service delivery
  • Leadership
  • Advocacy

The Youth Strategy informing the Youth Policy and Action Plan for 2015-2019 will be developed through early 2014, again through consultation with related youth stakeholders including young people. This strategy will also look at outcomes as related to the existing strategy and how they will relate to the new strategy.
