The Civics and Citizenship Workshop is an interactive 75 minute workshop to support grade 5 and 6 students to learn about local government and active citizenship.

The activities throughout the workshop are aligned with the Victorian Curriculum, and address the following key objectives:

  • Increase young people’s understanding of the roles and responsibilities of local government.
  • Build young people’s knowledge of the services available through Brimbank City Council and Brimbank Youth Services that support the health and wellbeing of young people.
  • Build young people’s knowledge of pathways to engage as active citizens.

Following the workshop students told us that they

“loved the activities in the lesson” which taught them “about Federal, State and Local Government”, “how to be an active citizen” and empowered them to “use [their] voice to speak up”.
