The Brimbank Youth Council is a six-month leadership program for young people aged 12-25 to create positive change in their community.

Brimbank Youth Council members, work to: 

  • Be a representative of young people in Brimbank
  • Work with other young people on a youth-led project to create positive changes
  • Build meaningful connections within the community
  • Meet with Councillors and advocate on your behalf 

The Brimbank Youth Council 2025 Project was on Youth Homelessness. The group: 

  1. Presented on this issue at the Western Region Youth Forum
  2. Delivered community and school engagements to raise awareness about homelessness
  3. Produced an info-sheet of services that provide support to at-risk homeless youth
  4. Created care packs of essential items for young people engaged with homelessness services.

Applications to join the 2026 Brimbank Youth Council are now open – become a leader in your community and work with other young people in Brimbank.

To be eligible, you must:

  • Be aged 12 to 25 years old
  • Live, study, work, or socialise in the City of Brimbank

Frequently Asked Questions

How much time do I have to commit?

There are weekly meetings on Wednesdays, at 5-6:30pm.

There will be off weeks scheduled throughout the year during peak exam time or school holidays.  

We understand that young people can have a range of responsibilities and acknowledge commitment to meetings can be challenging.

We require participants to attend majority of meetings and to communicate when they cannot attend.  

All meetings are held in Sunshine at either the Brimbank Community and Civic Centre or at the VISY Cares Hub 

Yes, we can accommodate to deliver online meetings.

However, previous Youth Councillors have reported preferring meetings in-person as it facilitates stronger discussion and collaboration.  

Absolutely! Being in the Youth Council is a fantastic opportunity to showcase on your resume.

You can also gain a resume reference from participating too.  

Yes, you will have the opportunity to meet Councillors across four meetings throughout your term.

This is a dedicated time to learn what Council is working on and prioritising, as well as an opportunity for Youth Councillors to ask questions and bring matters to Council’s attention.
