safeTALK is a suicide alertness workshop for those over the age of 15, who want to learn the steps for creating a life-changing connection.

safeTALK is LivingWorks evidenced-based, suicide alertness workshop. The workshop is a one-off half-day program offered to anyone over the age of 15.

During the workshop, participants will learn the four steps of the workshop:

  • How to tell if someone is having thoughts of suicide
  • How to ask directly
  • How to listen to them
  • How to keep them safe

The workshop is for anyone who is interested in debunking the myths around suicide and aims to create more suicide alert communities.

Expressions of Interest are open!

Brimbank Youth Services is currently taking expressions of interest from:

  • Brimbank Secondary schools
  • Community groups
  • Youth-focused groups

Do I need to complete any pre-training?

No – safeTALK is a program for all levels of experience and knowledge.

The program is designed to be a foundation into how to safely respond to someone having thoughts of suicide and to then connect them with support.

No. Brimbank Youth Services are offering this program for no cost to groups within our community.

This program is being offered to specific groups within Brimbanks community.

The program is available to all Brimbank Secondary schools, youth focused community groups and those with specific connections to young people. Participants must be 15 years and older to attend.

We’ll need:

  • A suitable space (a regular classroom is fine)
  • Access to projector/screen with laptop connectivity (we’ll bring a Windows laptop)
  • A school staff member present to supervise, support student wellbeing and assist with behaviour management if needed
  • A group of consenting students ready to engage and participate

We do not exclude those with thoughts of suicide from attending the program.
