 In Brimbank Youth Council, News

It’s time to meet your 2023 Brimbank Youth Councillor Ali Naqvi.

A Brimbank young people who is motivated, excited and determined to represent the young community of Brimbank.

Tell us more about yourself

My name is Ali, I am currently studying Bachelor of Social Work at Victoria University, and I am in my third year. I have high expectations of myself, and I hope to work with youth in the future. I believe I connect well with youth, and I have experience volunteering with my local mosque’s youth group since twenty-twenty. My values are respect, honesty, resilience, perseverance, trust, compassion, and empathy.

Why did you join the BYC?

I joined the Brimbank Youth Council to gain experience and understanding in the council-level of work within a community, learn what is expected of me as a member, and provide my skills, knowledge, and efforts in service of the community.

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about cars, physical, mental, and spiritual health and wellbeing, my religion, and family and community.

What are you hoping to achieve as a BYC member this year?

I am hoping to be able to work with my fellow BYC members and the Brimbank councilors to use our efforts to tackle one issue we believe is important to address in our community which we can achieve, or at least, begin to solve by the end of this year.

What does a better Brimbank look like to you?

To me a better Brimbank has many more people walking for exercise or travel, more people visiting their local parks for enjoyment and exercise, and more people communicating with one-another, whether for small talk or making new friends/relationships in the community, to create a stronger sense of community and care for one-another.

What’s one piece of advice you have for young people who want to create change in their community?

Contact your council office for information on how you can get involved with decision-making, planning, and addressing issues you believe need attention, and the issues you don’t care about, but still require you help and your knowledge and input.
