Meet Minh: Your 2025 Brimbank Youth Councillor

It’s time to meet your 2025 Brimbank Youth Council!

The Brimbank Youth Council is made up of young people in the area, who are motivated, excited and determined to represent the young community of Brimbank.

Minh is currently a VCE student who thrives in youth leadership and has K-Pop on repeat. Read more about him below!

Tell us about yourself!

I am a devout individual when it comes to leadership within the community, especially within my secondary school where I thrive in organising events and promoting unique opportunities for like-minded youth to prosper and grow. Outside of the educational environment, I am both a K-pop listener and an avid bubble tea fanatic, as well as a big fan of movie franchises such as Lord of The Rings. I also have a bit of a knack for gaming and anything technology-related!

Why did you join the BYC?

My inherent decision to join such a rich opportunity like BYC was because for all of my life I have grown up, and become enriched and ultimately nurtured by the wonderful community of Brimbank. On top of giving back to the environment that I wake up to every day, I felt a deep sense of responsibility to secure and hopefully improve the experience of growing up as a young person for future generation of Brimbank residents.

What are you passionate about?

I have an unwavering passion in advocating for education through youth voice and participation within various communities. Ever since my early secondary schooling years, I have been fortunate enough to be chosen and involved in various areas of leadership – inclusive of a wide range of sustainability, social justice, education, and student agency endeavors – that have improved my skills towards creating meaningful change in the community that benefits everybody and not a specific demographic or grouping of people. I am also deeply reverent with equipping young people with the necessary knowledge and information to live comfortably in relation to various societal issues, wherein they can bring about change on their own.

What are you hoping to achieve as a BYC member this year?

I aspire to improve my skills of contributing to discussion and relaying ideas to a cohort of like-minded individuals within a professional corporate setting, inclusive of how people effectively delegate roles and actions towards certain team members to achieve collective goal. On a community level, I aim to foster and address issues within the Brimbank community that affect the way we interact with one another and deliver opportunities crucial to the ongoing development and growth of the municipality.

What does a better Brimbank look like to you?

A better Brimbank in my eyes is a situation where the government bodies such as the city council can work in direct tandem with the youth that are most affected by policy change. Laying this groundwork ensures that the people of Brimbank are more easily engaged in those having a voice in those policy additions, delivering an effective and informed way communication to voice contemporary concerns and issues directly affecting residents of Brimbank.

What’s one piece of advice you have for young people who want to create change in their community?

If I had to choose, one piece of advice I have for youth who are interested in bringing forth change within their community comes from a quote by Mark Twain I came across early on in my childhood which reads, “Action speaks louder than words, but not nearly as often”. In today’s world it is easier now more than ever to write and say we believe or support certain things, but we simply end up never physically showing or fulfilling to the best of our ability. We can endlessly write and say we care about something, we can say we support advocacy or prevention or certain issues, or we can verbally agree with changes people suggest but deep down suggest the complete opposite.

It is ultimately showing those promises, claims, and verbal opinions through physical action and advocacy, that the youth can truly uphold what they say and changes in the community can be physically felt by members of the community. Overall, the actions of youth can speak a thousand times more than what mere words could claim to accomplish!
