Young Researchers offers Brimbank schools & students the opportunity to train in qualitative research skills & undertake a research project.
Academics from Swinburne University support you in developing the key skills you need to undertake thorough, ethical and robust research.
Across four sessions in a year, young people receive an interactive, hands-on experience learning and applying research skills while having the opportunity to work with other schools.
The program culminates in a presentation to school leadership teams and Brimbank City Councillors where participants have the opportunity to share their research findings and recommendations to be implemented at their schools.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many students in one school are able to participate?
A minimum of five students are required per research group.
If you’d like to include more students, please mention this in your EOI so we can explore our capacity to accommodate this request.
When and where are the sessions held?
Sessions are held every school term, usually on a Thursday in March, May, August and October.
Sessions are delivered in-person at a Council-run facility.
What research topic can we do?
Students can decide what topic they want to conduct research on.
Students can draw on their lived experience, their school’s Resilient Youth Australia Survey data or other sources to help them decide on their research topic.
