Welcome to The Bold Source magazine; a ‘Brimbankian’ magazine – made by young people for young people!
The Bold Source is a youth magazine led by an editorial team of young people between the ages of 15 and 25. The annual magazine acts as a platform to share young people’s stories.
The Bold Source is a space to showcase the diverse and layered experiences of young people in Melbourne’s West. Stories are how we make meaning in the world, and we want to creatively share stories to inspire, educate and uplift.
We meet once a week from 4.30- 6.30pm in Sunshine.

- Attend no-cost training workshops with both Council staff and external artists/writers
- Meet other like-minded young people from the community
- Learn the ins and outs of producing a magazine and event planning

Stage 2: Interview
In Stage 2 of the Bold Source, you’ll…
★ Research a local young person you want to interview
★ Get trained in interview techniques
★ Prepare your interview questions
★ Meet and interview your chosen local young person
★ Edit the transcript into a final version for publication
Stage 3: Editing
In Stage 3 of the Bold Source, you’ll…
★ Get editing training
★ Edit submissions (or your own work) as a team
★ Collaborate with contributors
Stage 4: Design & Print
In Stage 4 of the Bold Source, you’ll…
★ Decide the flow of the magazine issue
★ Write a short design brief for each page
★ Choose accompanying imagery for each piece
★ Produce a flat plan for designers
★ Get final approval from Council
Stage 5: Launch Event
In Stage 5 of the Bold Source, you’ll…
★ Brainstorm event ideas
★ Research and lock-in location + performers while working with a budget
★ Plan how the event looks, including props and decorations
★ Write a short speech to give as a team during the event
★ Launch the issue as part of Brimbank Readers and Writers Festival – and celebrate your hard work!
