Meet Sienna: Your 2024 Brimbank Youth Councillor

 In Brimbank Youth Council

It’s time to meet your 2024 Brimbank Youth Council!

The Brimbank Youth Council is made up of young people in the area, who are motivated, excited and determined to represent the young community of Brimbank.

Sienna is a 14-year-old athletics lover and twin whose family has always lived in the Brimbank area. While she’s passionate about the heptathlon (a track and field sport with hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200 metres, long jump, javelin throw, and 800 metres), Sienna’s favourite subjects at school are science and math. In her spare time, she’s enjoys exercising her brain muscles by building complex LEGO sets and solving the Rubix cube.

Why did you join the Brimbank Youth Council?

I joined the Brimbank Youth Council because I wanted a chance to be involved with Brimbank as much as I can. I also saw this as an opportunity to engage with other young people in our community who are also passionate about volunteering and making a difference. Brimbank Youth Council will also help me with my responsibility skills and time management.

What are you passionate about?

I am very passionate about being involved in the community and giving new things a go. I am also passionate about speaking up for the youth in my community and making sure that everyone’s voice is heard.  It is a honour to represent young people and be given the opportunity to voice their ideas and suggestions of what they would like to see actioned in the community.

What are you hoping to achieve as a Brimbank Youth Councillor this year?

I am hoping I can make a difference to our community and make positive changes to Brimbank and it’s youth, all whilst gaining new skills and experiance along the way. I am also hoping to make new friends and connections with other members of our community who share the same interests as I do.

What does a better Brimbank look like to you?

A better Brimbank to me includes a safe environment that is supportive and positive for all people. A better Brimbank also looks like a place where the youth of Brimbank are taking initiative and making positive change to and for our society. Such that we can stand out for the betterment of all people in our community and really make a difference in the West.

What’s one piece of advice you have for young people who want to create change in their community?

My advice would be to give things a go and don’t be afraid to try something new, because you never know it until you try it. Enjoy the journey, you will build new skills and make new connections with people. Contribute wherever you can, there is much joy in giving.
