Frequently Asked Questions
How much time do I have to commit?
There are weekly meetings on Wednesdays, at 5-6:30pm.
There will be off weeks scheduled throughout the year during peak exam time or school holidays.
I have other commitments during that time and can’t attend every meeting. Does that mean I can’t apply?
We understand that young people can have a range of responsibilities and acknowledge commitment to meetings can be challenging.
We require participants to attend majority of meetings and to communicate when they cannot attend.
Where are meetings held?
All meetings are held in Sunshine at either the Brimbank Community and Civic Centre or at the VISY Cares Hub.
Are any meetings online?
Yes, we can accommodate to deliver online meetings.
However, previous Youth Councillors have reported preferring meetings in-person as it facilitates stronger discussion and collaboration.
Can I add this to my resume?
Absolutely! Being in the Youth Council is a fantastic opportunity to showcase on your resume.
You can also gain a resume reference from participating too.
Do we get to meet Councillors?
Yes, you will have the opportunity to meet Councillors across four meetings throughout your term.
This is a dedicated time to learn what Council is working on and prioritising, as well as an opportunity for Youth Councillors to ask questions and bring matters to Council’s attention.
