Youth voice opportunities

  • Brimbank Youth Services and Brimbank Learning Futures presents Linked IRL: Careers in IT! Join us on Thursday 25 July for a networking event to hear from IT pros and learn about all things about the employment in this sector. Register here.
  • YLab and Our Watch are recruiting 15 young people aged 14-24 for interviews to help them develop an insights paper and creative assets with young people to promote safety, gender equality and respect in the workplace. Participants will be paid $75 via GiftPay to attend 1 hour interview between 22 July and 9 August 2024. Register EOI here by 21 July. Flyer

Events and opportunities

  • Brimbank Youth Services is hosting its quarterly Youthlinks Meeting, themed around parental support. Join Dr Christiane Kehoe from Tuning in to Teens for an informative presentation that offers insights on the evidence-based tools and strategies this program uses to support parents build emotional connections with their teens. Programs

  • Youth Project’s Transition to Work program provides tailored training and guidance to equip young individuals with essential skills and knowledge, fostering job readiness through practical skill development. Once signed up to the program, the young person is assigned a Youth Coach where they work together to gain the skills and confidence required to obtain sustainable employment. Young people aged between 15-24 and are Australian citizen or hold an visa are eligible. Contact Charlene at charlenec@youthprojects.org.au for more information.
  • Good Shepherd delivers Building Blocks, a free, facilitated, weekly, and social playgroup for young parents up to 25 years old and their preschool children aged 0-5 years. The playgroup runs weekly within school terms. Every week they have a fun activity that encourages language development, reading time, free play, and a healthy morning tea. They run regular excursions (to the zoo, aquarium, play centres, swimming pool- all free) and have guest speakers each term to speak on topics the parents want. They also provide parenting support and referrals to any supports the parents or children need.

  • Multicultural Health Support Services (MHSS) offers sexual and reproductive health information session to migrant and refugee communities, including International Students. Anyone is eligible to participate and there are no deadlines. The service is completely free, and the dates and venues can be flexible as per the participants/ community groups’ requests. We cover range of information like Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Liver Health, HIV, and other Sexually Transmitted Infections, Navigating Australian Healthcare System, and also Healthy Relationships and Consent. Grants

  • Brimbank’s Annual Community Grants Program offers one-off financial assistance to not-for-profit organisations and incorporated community groups, to deliver projects and activities that benefit our community. This year we have a category for young people to deliver a project, event or program that positively impacts other young people in the Brimbank community. You can apply for up to $10,000 using this online application form: Young People’s Ideas Grants. The grants will close on Sunday 14 July 2024 at 11:59 pm. Click here for more info. FLYER
  • Wear It Purple (the team behind Wear It Purple Day) has opened their grant opportunities for LGBTQIA+ young people who wish to express themselves through art, events and leaderships. They have two Grant opportunities that close 19 August:
    • The Future Me Fund is a grant program designed to empower and uplift LGBTQIA+SB young people aged 18 years old and under. They are offering 5 grants of $1000 to support arts, culture and community based projects created and carried out by young people in this age bracket.
    • The Queer Futures Fund is a grant program designed to empower and uplift LGBTQIA+SB young people aged between 18 to 26 years old. You can apply for a grant up to $15,000 to support an arts, culture and community based project as long as it is for and by LGBTQIA+ youth.

Surveys / Research Projects

  • Researchers at La Trobe University are seeking to appoint 8 people aged between 18-24 years old as members of a Youth Panel for a research project on Child Safety. The project aims to identify a new approach to raising awareness and engaging young adult audiences on the difficult topic of child sexual abuse (CSA). Youth Panel will be reimbursed with a $200 gift card for each year across 2024-2025. More information about this and how to apply here.
  • Prevention United have just launched Be a Part of the Ripple – Your Voice Matterstheir first ever National Youth Survey. The survey was designed by members of their Youth Advisory Group, to help them better understand the factors impacting young Australians’ mental health, and their opinions on the policy changes and other prevention-focused solutions that would make a difference.  The survey is open to anyone living in Australia aged 16 – 25. It’s completely anonymous, takes around 10 – 15 mins and is open until 16 July.  Participants can enter the draw to win one of five $50 vouchers. All responses will be kept confidential, and the questions are voluntary and can be skipped at any time. Further questions are welcome and can be sent to the researchers at youth@preventionunited.org.au
