Tell us more about yourself!
Hi there! I am Gargi Katyare. I am a young South asian highschool student who has a deep interest in astrology, the environment, and providing a voice for young people in Brimbank. I want to be able to make a positive change in my community. I am passionate, hardworking, and persistent when it comes to completing a task at hand and love to socialise with new people.
What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about socialising and getting to know other people. I believe that everyone has a story and that all stories need to be heard in order for a change to be made. I am also passionate about helping those in need either by providing physical support or just letting them speak and have their say.
What are you hoping to achieve as a BYC member this year?
I am hoping to make a change in Brimbank (even a small one) that can help young people of colour. I also am hoping to be able to gain more experience in leadership, team building and team working.
What does a better Brimbank look like to you?
Brimbank to me feels like a place where your voice is heard. This is one of the biggest reasons why I joined BYC as I want to use my voice! However, I feel like in Brimbank there is a need for young people to be heard louder than they are already, which is where the BYC comes in.
What’s one piece of advice you have for young people who want to create change in their community?
I would say that if you want to create a positive change in your community, you need to be the first step in making that change. Sooner or later, people will see what you are doing and will support you!
