Meet #BYC – Alysha Anwar
It’s time to meet your 2023 Brimbank Youth Councillor Alysha Anwar.
A Brimbank young people who is motivated, excited and determined to represent the young community of Brimbank.
Tell us more about yourself!
My name is Alysha, I’m currently in Year 12 doing VCE at Copperfield College. I’m open-minded, thoughtful and always down to listen when someone needs to rant. I enjoy working with others and will be your #1 supporter when it comes to competitions or life in general. Additionally, I consider myself driven and dedicated to anything I set my mind to and will apply these traits into the BYC.
Why did you join the BYC?
I joined the BYC so I am able to be part of an organisation that supports the youth in Brimbank, allowing me to express my nurturing and open-minded personality. I would like to be able to contribute ideas and partake in decisions to create a safe, fun and welcoming environment for our community.
What are you passionate about?
Im currently passionate about mental, spiritual and physical health; amidst the stress of being a year 12 VCE student I always find time to get myself to the gym as it is way for me to clear my head and find my “zen” again.
What are you hoping to achieve as a BYC member this year?
I’m hoping to work alongside my fellow council members to further lift the Brimbank spirit through our chosen BYC project as well as learn more about the community and its values from the youth of Brimbank.
What does a better Brimbank look like to you?
Safe, connected and fun!
What’s one piece of advice you have for young people who want to create change in their community?
Definitely participate in organisations (such as the BYC) that will guide and help you carry your voice through out the community. Remember to always deliver (speeches, ideas, concepts etc.) with confidence and don’t be afraid to be “different”; embrace it and use it to create change.
