It’s time to meet your 2025 Brimbank Youth Council!
The Brimbank Youth Council is made up of young people in the area, who are motivated, excited and determined to represent the young community of Brimbank.
2025 Brimbank Youth Councillor Yuwal is a Commerce student who balances private tutoring and volunteering with his hobbies in photography and gaming.

Tell us more about yourself!
I’m a first year Bachelor of Commerce student at the University of Melbourne, planning to major in actuarial science. I’m currently a secretary for a private manufacturing business and a private tutor whilst also getting involved in volunteering with BYC and Centre for Multicultural Youth – Youth Facilitator. Outside of this, I love photography, spending time with friends and gaming.
Why did you join the BYC?
I joined BYC in an attempt to make real noticeable change in the community, which I think is vital. As someone who is passionate in youth advocacy, taking part in Youth Parliament and Multicultural Youth Advocacy Network FUSE, BYC seemed like a perfect opportunity to create real change. I’d like to improve the community while developing my own skills as well.
What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about creating a better world in all realms – safety, community engagement, sustainability, opportunities and more. I try to do everything I can to make change, which has led me to BYC. Actively being involved in high school clubs allowed me to facilitate and organise forums and workshops, which I pride myself in. I look forward to doing more similar events and overall, giving back to the community.
What are you hoping to achieve as a BYC member this year?
As a BYC member, I am hoping to finish our project and see this change come to fruition over the years. I want to try making or doing something that lasts and is not just a one-off thing. I also want to be able to get along well with other members of BYC and the community in order to create a better Brimbank.
What does a better Brimbank look like to you?
To me, a better Brimbank looks like a cohesive and inclusive community where everyone feels like they belong and everyone is respected. A community such as this allows for growth, whether it be in education, safety, opportunities and so on. I believe that the foundation for these lay in having a close community which is willing to help.
What’s one piece of advice you have for young people who want to create change in their community?
My advice would be to keep trying – change has never happened because someone gave up. If you really want to change something, push for it, find people to support you and work your way up until you can make change within the community. It all starts off with the determination to change.
