Youth Education Services in Brimbank

Education is about more than what happens in the classroom. For young people, having access to the right support, opportunities and resources can help build confidence, develop new skills and create pathways for the future.

Brimbank City Council provides various youth education services and programs that support young people aged 10 to 25 to learn, connect and work towards their goals.

What are youth education services?

Youth education services are programs, resources and support designed to help young people develop the knowledge, skills and confidence they need for education, employment and life.

This can include support with:

  • Study skills and staying motivated
  • Leadership and advocacy
  • Public speaking and communication
  • Exploring education and career pathways
  • Developing practical life skills
  • Building confidence and resilience
  • Connecting with other young people and community opportunities

Education looks different for everyone, which is why youth-focused services can provide opportunities to learn in ways that complement school, TAFE, university or other formal education.

Brimbank Youth Services

Young people in Brimbank can access a range of opportunities through Brimbank Youth Services. Our programs are designed to respond to the interests, needs and ideas of local young people.

Our programs and workshops can help young people build practical skills in a supportive and welcoming environment. Topics may include leadership, public speaking, advocacy, project management, and teamwork.

  • Brimbank Youth Council: A six-month youth leadership program for young people to create positive change in their community
  • The Bold Source: A youth magazine program where young people create an issue from start to end, or submit for their work to be published
  • Crystal Queer: A safe space program for LGBTQIA+ young people and allies, including a community-focused project

These opportunities are a chance for young people to ask questions, meet others, share ideas and build confidence. Plus, facilitators become a handy resource for references in future!

Brimbank Libraries

Libraries are the epicentres of our communities – including Brimbank!

You’re likely to see crowds of students at our libraries once the school bell rings. Brimbank Libraries is here to support you, particularly during the exam period when young people are stressed about studying.

Study Havens run during these seasons, offering a quiet space and snacks for young people aged 12 to 18 at all our library locations.

The library is also a great place to learn new skills. There are regular events to support youth education such as coding clubs, book clubs, and Maker Space workshops.
