Baby Steps: Healthy Relationships

Most couples experience relationship changes when they become parents. A child can bring positive changes to your relationship such as a new and deeper connection but it can bring new strains too.  If your partner is still involved in your life open communication can help keep things on track.

Tips for parents:

  1. Listen to each other
  2. Tell your partner how you feel
  3. Use “I” statements rather than “you” statements
  4. Accept the changes
  5. Manage conflict in a respectful/ safe way
  6. Stay close now that you are parents
  7. Make some ‘couple’ time
