Brimbank Youth Council: Meagan Mostert
It’s with great pleasure to introduce your 2022 Brimbank Youth Council: Meagan Mostert!
Name: Meagan Mostert
Tell us more about yourself!
I am Meagan Mostert. I am sixteen years old and I am a 2022 Brimbank Youth Council member.
Why did you join the BYC?
I decided to apply for the BYCfor my first year because not many kids in my area are aware of situations that are happening right in front of them. I want to make other kids aware of not only the big issues but the smaller ones too that need just as much attention. I also wanted to show people that anyone who has passion can achieve their dreams and do something great to help our world.
What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about not only the environment but other creative things like baking. I am a huge sweet and savory. I am very into art like drawing and photography, I am also passionate about certain sports like swimming, netball and rugby.
What are you hoping to achieve as a BYC member this year?
One of my goals is to make people more aware of what is happening to our earth. I also want to be able to become stronger in my leadership skills and by the end of the year be able to have a bunch of new and different friends within the Brimbank youth council.
What does a better Brimbank look like to you?
A better Brimbank to me looks like a community that gets involved, a community that helps each other out when others are in tough times. A community that cares and respects others opinions and differences. A community that cares not only about big issues but smaller ones too like drink taps in parks for children to be able to hydrate themselves, or not enough shaded seating areas within schools.
What’s one piece of advice you have for young people who want to create change in their community?
To believe in yourself, your ideas and opinions matter and no matter what other people tell you, stick up for yourself, YOUR VOICE MATTERS! But always remember while sticking up for yourself and your ideas, others also have their beliefs and to always help others who aren’t as strong as you in using their voice. And you don’t have to create something so big it solves global warming, you can do other things like helping out someone who needs it, planting trees, creating a small backyard garden, volunteering and so many more things you can do.
