Meet #BYC – Keegan Hand-Howden
It’s time to meet your 2023 Brimbank Youth Councillor Keegan Hand-Howden.
A Brimbank young people who is motivated, excited and determined to represent the young community of Brimbank.
Tell us more about yourself.
I am currently undertaking a Bachelor Arts/Master of Teaching Degree with a major in Politics and Policy and History at Deakin University. Politics and representing the community has long been a passion of mine. In my spare time I like to play Playstation and watch movies.
Why did you join the BYC?
I joined the BYC to grow my leadership skills as well as represent the youth in Brimbank. I want to also explore new opportunities and follow my passions.
What are you passionate about?
I have numerous passions. I am passionate about decreasing peer pressure and addiction in youth, and also poverty and financial hardship a lot of youth face. I am also passionate about ensuring the youth receive the best education possible so that they can have the best future possible. I am a big believer that everyone deserves to have an opportunity in the community to grow.
What are you hoping to achieve as a BYC member this year?
I hope that as BYC member I can make a difference for the youth in Brimbank and that the impact can help improve everyone’s lives. Every contribution matters and I hope that mine can make a difference and make Brimbank a better place.
What does a better Brimbank look like to you?
A better Brimbank is one where everyone is happy and feels safe in their own skin. A better Brimbank is one where everyone’s voices are heard and contribute to making change.
What is one piece of advice you have for young people who want to create change in their community?
My advice is to just try your best. You can only accomplish what you want to if you put in your all. Also, take risks and challenges when it comes to progressing in life. Life is not without its challenges but if you take them head on it will help you grow to be the best you can be.
