Youth voice opportunities

  • Brimbank Youth Services and Brimbank Learning Futures presents Linked IRL: Careers in Beauty! Join us on Thursday 29 August for a networking event to hear from beauty specialists and learn about all things about working in this industry. Register here.

Events and opportunities

  • Brimbank Youth Services is hosting its quarterly Youthlinks Meeting, themed around parental support. Join Dr Christiane Kehoe from Tuning in to Teens for an informative presentation that offers insights on the evidence-based tools and strategies this program uses to support parents build emotional connections with their teens.   • Multicultural Youth Group have opened of nominations for the Multicultural Youth Awards, a celebration scheduled to take place on October 5th at Parliament House. This event will honor outstanding achievements and contributions by multicultural youth in our community. More information on how to nominate here.
  • Brimbank Libraries in collaboration with Village Response Collective is starting this Saturday at Deer Park Library, 11.15 to 12.15, and will be in Samoan and other Pasifika languages, including Tuvalu and Tongan. This program will be weekly for 10 weeks. Flyer
    • At St Albans Library, we will have Auslan story times in collaboration with Deaf Children Australia. These sessions will be fortnightly starting from August 10, also for 10 sessions. Flyer

Programs

  • Youth Project’s Transition to Work program provides tailored training and guidance to equip young individuals with essential skills and knowledge, fostering job readiness through practical skill development. Once signed up to the program, the young person is assigned a Youth Coach where they work together to gain the skills and confidence required to obtain sustainable employment. Young people aged between 15-24 and are Australian citizen or hold an visa are eligible. Contact Charlene at charlenec@youthprojects.org.au for more information.
  • Good Shepherd delivers Building Blocks, a free, facilitated, weekly, and social playgroup for young parents up to 25 years old and their preschool children aged 0-5 years. The playgroup runs weekly within school terms. Every week they have a fun activity that encourages language development, reading time, free play, and a healthy morning tea. They run regular excursions (to the zoo, aquarium, play centres, swimming pool- all free) and have guest speakers each term to speak on topics the parents want. They also provide parenting support and referrals to any supports the parents or children need. Open to referrals from professionals and self-referrals.  More info here. Flyer
  • Multicultural Health Support Services (MHSS) offers sexual and reproductive health information session to migrant and refugee communities, including International Students. Anyone is eligible to participate and there are no deadlines. The service is completely free, and the dates and venues can be flexible as per the participants/ community groups’ requests. We cover range of information like Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Liver Health, HIV, and other Sexually Transmitted Infections, Navigating Australian Healthcare System, and also Healthy Relationships and Consent. Grants

  • Wear It Purple (the team behind Wear It Purple Day) has opened their grant opportunities for LGBTQIA+ young people who wish to express themselves through art, events and leaderships. They have two Grant opportunities that close 19 August:
    • The Future Me Fund is a grant program designed to empower and uplift LGBTQIA+SB young people aged 18 years old and under. They are offering 5 grants of $1000 to support arts, culture and community based projects created and carried out by young people in this age bracket.
    • The Queer Futures Fund is a grant program designed to empower and uplift LGBTQIA+SB young people aged between 18 to 26 years old. You can apply for a grant up to $15,000 to support an arts, culture and community based project as long as it is for and by LGBTQIA+ youth.
